Counsellors who are members of the NZAC:

  • Are trustworthy

  • Will respect your confidentiality

  • Will listen to you carefully and sensitively

  • Will help you sort out how you would like things to be different

  • Will support you in making the changes you choose to make

  • Must abide by the Association’s strict Code of Ethics and are expected to be in regular supervision to ensure their ongoing professionalism and adherence to best practice guidelines.

They may also:

  • See you on your own or with a support person.

  • Give you information.

  • Discuss with you who else you could talk to about your difficulties.

  • Act on your behalf with your consent.

  • Refer you to someone more appropriate.
