I currently have the privilege of holding the role of President of NZAC . I work to co-govern the association with Te Ahi Kaa, Eugene Davis and our executive team and many others who keep our organizaiton ticking over. I have a background of working as a School Counsellor, ACC Counsellor and Clinical Supervision in Corrections, currently working as a Senior Specialist Clinician with the Adolescent team at STOP in Christchurch. My vision is for our members to feel connected, valued and supported in their profession and with each other.

My name is Ashley Cairns.
I have been a Counsellor for over 16 years and a Canterbury/ West Coast NZAC committee member since 2021. I am mainly a private practice therapist and business owner and have been working privately since 2019 for my companies, A Change for Better and Our Office Online. In my spare time, I love reading, gardening, playing with my two chocolate labs, and anything to do with learning.

Originally from Waimate in South Canterbury, I have extensive clinical experience over a period of 30 years within a variety of Counselling and Education Institutions in both Australia and New Zealand. I have completed a Masters in Clinical Counselling, with a focus on Family Therapy, Couples Therapy and Group Work from the University of New England, Australia, and a postgraduate Bachelor in Counselling from the same University. I currently work as a clinical counsellor across several Schools in Dunedin, as well as a Private Practice located in central Dunedin. I am currently the Otago and Southland Regional Representative on National Executive. I am passionate about good and robust governance that allows NZAC to set its direction well into the future. It is a privilege to serve the membership in this way.

Kia ora, Talofa,I am Miriama Tolo, the Wellington, Wairarapa and Kapiti Regional Representative on National Executive since 2019
I am the Regional Manager for WellStop Southern. Our team covers Wairarapa to Kapiti and across the Hutt Valley and Wellington. We work with Adults, Adolescents, Children and their whanau. I have worked at WellStop since mid-2020 as Assistant Manager and then more recently as Regional Manager within a diverse team of Clinicians from differing disciplines. I have worked as a Counsellor, in various agencies, in the community, for courts, at tertiary institutions, PHO and as a private practitioner for the past 20+ years. Completing an undergraduate degree in Counselling with Postgraduate Supervision via Weltec and Health Science at Otago University. I have worked in Wellington for much of my career with an interlude in Auckland for a few years when I thought the weather would be better there. I am a Wellingtonian, from a big family and spent most of my life in the city centre and more recently live in the ‘burbs’. I have a daughter and three very busy and active grandsons. I am active with family and an extended fanau across the Pacific rim which ensures that life is rarely boring and travel is necessary.

I have been a member of NZAC since 1996. I have been the Waikato/Tauranga Regional Representative on National Executive since 2018. I am also a member of the NZAC Māori Roopu.I live in Hamilton and have over 25 years of counselling experience. Most of that time I worked as a Student Counsellor at Waikato University.
I offer cultural supervision to those seeking NZAC membership because people are priceless and problems are costly.
Narrative Therapy; Family Therapy; Māori models of therapy is what I integrate into my counselling practice. Since January 2018, I work privately and have registered with the Family Court, ACC sensitive claims, and Vitae.He aha te mea nui o te ao. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
